A conversation with Professor Jonathan Tan on the discipline of Asian American Studies within Ethnic Studies at CWRU, as well as the place of Asian Americans in contemporary discourse of politics, society, race, and culture in the United States.
Jonathan Tan is the Archbishop Paul J. Hallinan Professor of Catholic Studies and Director of Undergraduate Studies for Religious Studies, as well as affiliated faculty in Chinese, Ethnic Studies, and Asian Studies at Case Western Reserve University. Professor Tan holds a LL.B. Honours from the National University of Singapore Law School, a M.A. from the Graduate Theological Union, and a Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America. Professor Tan is the author of The Federation of Asian Bishop’s Conferences (FABC): Bearing Witness to the Gospel and the Reign of God in Asia (Fortress Press, 2021), Christian Mission among the Peoples of Asia (Orbis Books, 2014) and Introducing Asian American Theologies (Orbis Books, 2008,).
